So this is my first official blog post....I wanted to create a blog for my upcoming Study Abroad trip to Australia this fall. So In the three months prior to takeoff, I figured I would create a few pre-trip, general thought blogs. So here it goes...
I don't know who came up with the motto, live for the moment...but it is such an important philosophy. Of course, we learn from our past, and look forward to the future. We can carry part of the past with us to cherish, and to help shape our future. At the same time, we can plan and look forward to the future, in order to keep that "promise" and optimism of tomorrow alive. We must also remember that the decisions we make now, can affect our future. However, despite all this, it's is all too easy to lose sight of soaking up the gifts bestowed upon us NOW. So while I am excited about, and busy planning for, living in Australia for six months, it is also important that I don't lose sight of what's going on in my life today. If my past experiences have taught me anything, it is that we are supposed to find the joy in life. We are supposed to be fueled by what God has in store for us today. Part of that can be enjoying that feeling of excitement and anticipation, as it is all part of the experience. Yet another important aspect of "living for the moment", is taking advantage of all that surrounds us today. Whether it's enjoying the picturesque mountains of Colorado, working hard in school and work, or simply enjoying a good meal; its crucial to be seizing the opportunities handed to us, and living for the only thing that is absolutely certain...the present. So with this said, I am incredibly excited for whats to come in life, yet at times am suffering from the "anticipation syndrome". Not that anticipation and excitement is bad, like I sad its all part of the experience, but at times it can cloud our perception of today. So I am trying to take advantage of what I have now...close access to the mountains to go hiking and skiing, familiar surroundings, and spending time with friends and family that I probably won't see for a long time.
So, the take away from my first blog... two important quotes:
Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.- James Dean
And from a Christian perspective... "He has come so that we may have life, and have it to the full"- John 10:10

Very true, we have been given life to live to its fullest! Live fully and celebrate each moment. So glad that you are on a journey of both discovery and of living in the present. May we all listen to your wise words
